Community Games All Ireland Final May 26-27 Athlone

Well done to the Newport teams who travelled to Athlone at the weekend to take part in the Community Games finals. The Tipperary U12 team battked hard on Saturday with a fine second place performance to secure a slot in the final on Sunday. All four girls Allanah Deering, Elma Casey, Emma Fagan and Emma Flanagan ran very well finishing in fourth place among a very ceompetitive group of athletes.

Emma Coleman and Roisin Allen were also part of this relay team and also took part in the mixed relay sub’s race where both athletes put in blistering performances earning them third place overall.

Also in action were James Lynch in the boys U12 mixed distance realys with Robert Duggan and Thea Cutin Gillian Lyons and Oscar Ottaman took part in the U13 mixed distance cross country race. In the U14 mixed distance relay Sarah Fagan Laura Deegan and Lisa McKeogh represented the county.

County Outdoor T+F Championships Templemore U13-Junior May 20

Day three of the County Track and Field championships was held on May 20 on a day that was to mark the start of the Summer, finally !

The club had a large field competing in the U13, however this was not to be a day for Newport unfortunately with no medals in this division.

Medal winners were Sarah Fagan winning bronze in the girls U14 800m and Eoin Ryan who won the U18 javelin throwing 44.88m, winning by a clear margin of over 6m. Well done to all athletes who took part.

Munster Junior and U23 T+F Championships Castleisland May 7

The Lynch family were out in force for this event, where Eimear Lynch won both the 200m and 400m U23 event in convincing style. Patrick feeling inspired by this took the gold in the Junior men 200m and third in the 100m. Well done to both athletes.

County Outdoor T+F Championships Templemore U12-Junior May 6

Day two of the County Track and Field championships was held on May 6. The numbers taking part although not in the same volume as day one from Newport, there were still some great performances from the club.

In the girls U14 1500m Sarah Fagan took second place, while Sharlene Mawdsley had an outstanding day, winning the U15 80m hurdles and finishing the day taking 2nd in the 200m event.

In the boys U18, Conor Lynch earned a bronze in the 100m with a fine run, while his brother Patrick pulled out a good run finishing second in the Junior men 100m.

The County outdoor Track & Field championships were held in Templemore in April.

Newport had a good contingent organised for the competition, many competing for the first time.

Medal winners on the day were, Mathew Ward in the boys U9 long jump earning third place with a jump of 2.70m. In the girls U10 Aimee Hayde put in an exceptional finish to win the 300m.Next up, in the girls U11 600m Emma Coleman also won her race in convincing style.

AAI Indoors Nenagh U/13 – Junior 24-25 March 2012

Last Saturday we had Patrick Lynch compete in the National U19 60m event, he ran a great heat to qualify for the final. He was unfortunate to be out of the medals in final as it was such a tightly contested race.

In the girls U15 Hurdles we had Sharlene Mawdsley take part in her first National Hurdle event. She ran a great heat which also saw her qualify for the final. She put in a great performance in the final, but was just out of the medals.

County Indoor Championships Saturday 10th. March 2012 U/9-U/12

Newport had a very successful day out at the County Indoor’s for U/9 to U/12 in Nenagh on Saturday 10th. March. We had lots of our new athletes competing for the first time and they all ran fantastic.

In the Boys U/9 60m Matthew Ward ran a great race to win the silver section.

In the girls U/12 Niamh Cryan gave great performances both in the Long Jump and High Jump when she finished second in both events. She had a great jump in the long jump of 3.50m and a personal best in the high jump of 1.19m.

Melanie Bonfield finished 3rd. in the girls U/12 60m where she ran a great race to finish in the top three.

Our Boys U/9 relay ran a great race to get 3rd. place, this was their first race for the club and they all ran superbly. The team was comprised of : Matthew Ward, Luke Collins, Diarmuid O’ Riordan and Gavin O’ Brien.

Our Boys U/10 were next up and they certainly did not disappoint, they also took 3rd. place. The team was made up of James Allen, Ben O’ Sullivan, Brendan Quinn and Luke Ryan. Well done to all our athletes.

Munster Indoor Championships March 3-4 (U14-U19)

Newport had another successful weekend at the Munster Indoor Championships in Nenagh on March 3 and 4.

Sharlene Mawdsley put in an impressive performance to take silver in the 60m hurdles for her first event of the year, Sharlene clearly in good form for 2012.

Following on from their successful county success both Patrick and Conor Lynch accounted for themselves in convincing fashion whereby Conor claimed third place in the U17 200m and Patrick Lynch taking second in the 60m, great result by all athletes.

Munster Indoor Championships (U9-U13) February 25/26

Newport had another eventful weekend at the Munster Indoor Championships in Nenagh where 12 athletes competed in a range of events including 60m, 300m, 600m and long jump. While all athletes performed well and represented the club admirably, Emma Coleman was the sole medal winner receiving a bronze medal for the girls U11 600m.

Emma ran an excellent time of 2.04.94 and continues to grow from strength to strength.
